Bird Signs - Pelican

Well, I should have paid more attention to my bird signs from last week. I had the Jay which stands for communication and I really didn't communicate very well on a couple of occasions.  Oh dear.  Lesson learned??? This week, I'll try and pay more attention to the guidance and wisdom from our feathered friends.

So, my Bird Sign for today - from the book by G.G Carbone- is The Pelican, symbolizing Spontaneity, something I am a big fan of.

I think Pelicans are wonderful birds and used to enjoy watching them all the time when we lived in Florida.  In fact, I rescued one on the beach once that was very ill.  Gosh, I couldn't believe how light such a big bird was.  He was very ill, so I covered him in a towel and took him to the wildlife rescue place. He hardly moved, didn't seem to have the energy to panic as I sat in the car with him on my lap.... Poor Pelican.....Now we still see them on the coast here in Northern California - but not so many - and I always look out for them on this patch of water in a quite busy area on the way to the city. It is only white pelicans that I see there.

The bird cards say that when the Pelican appears, it's time to toss aside my schedule and routine for one day and go have fun.  Spend the day doing whatever refreshes the spirit. Spontaneity is the key: do whatever appeals at that moment.

This is perfect timing!  This Sunday, for once, I am not singing.  We have the day off, so hubby and I are going off for the weekend just to do something different and make the most of our free weekend.  While I love singing at Grace, it'll be great to have a break.  I wonder what spontaneous things we'll do???

Hope you find the chance from some spontaneity this week too.  Let me know if you do.

Bird Signs - Jay

This week's bird card that I picked is the Jay.

We have a lot of jays around us - and I see and hear them most days. This week, however, as I went to my studio, we have a planter by the door and as I walked near it - both a squirrel and a blue jay jumped out from there. They looked very guilty like they were up to something together. I chatted to them and asked them what they were up to, but the jay flew off noisily and the squirrel went up the oak tree.  Strangely enough, the same thing happened the next day, and also a few other days during the week.  It was like the squirrel and jay hang out together. I'm guessing they were both after acorns but it seemed sweet to see them together ..

The night after my second sighting of them, I had a dream that I had a pet squirrel called Harriet, but that she got away.....  I walked for ages calling her and asking her to come back, but she didn't. Maybe she went looking for Jay????

So I guess choosing the jay card was timely this week. The Jay is a member of the crow family and is noisy and intelligent. However, when nesting and communicating with a mate, they use a "whisper song" - a soft sweet warble.  The book says that if the jay appears to you, perhaps the suggestion is to use you sweetest voice with your loved ones...or maybe you need to use a louder voice to make your voice heard by others.

Jays like to rummage at picnic areas and campsites so the card suggests that it is time to pack a picnic, a blanket and a loved one and head out to appreciate the simplicity of life.  Maybe that's what I'll do tomorrow if the weather is nice???

As a follow up to last week's cards when it was indicating that I would find my life purpose with an eagle as my guide.... I'm afraid I haven't got it all figured out (!!!)...yet....  but it did make me think a lot about it and I continue to do so...and have taken steps to do a few new things too.

Have you seen a specific bird today? If so, let me know what it was and I'll see what the signs book says.

In the meantime, let's hope Harriet the squirrel and Jay the Jay are enjoying each others company!!!

Bird Signs - Migration with an Eagle

Time to go back to my "bird signs" book and cards this week.  Today, when it came to selecting a card - I actually selected two.  Both of them seemed to be asking to be picked and I didn't know what that meant, but chose both anyhow.

The first card I turned over was "Migration - Journey".

The book says that choosing this card means I am ready to begin a new journey.  This trip may entail a physical journey or a spiritual journey to find your life's path or the road to inner knowing and spiritual growth.  The journey may appear long or short, expected or unexpected and I may not know about this journey until I choose the card.  I don't have a physical journey planned so ......

The book also says that the destination is not as important as the journey itself.  It suggests that I can ask a bird to accompany on my journey.....and so at this time, I turned over my second card.  This was the Eagle  - Freedom.

With the eagle accompanying me on my journey, this means that my intuitive powers are at their peak and these powers can be used to find life's purpose.

Gosh, looks like both cards are suggesting I find my life's path and purpose.  Could be a busy time!  I'll let you know what happens with these cards in mind this week.

Bird Signs - The Wren

Last week my chosen bird from my "Bird Signs - guidance and wisdom from our feathered friends" was the owl.  It was interesting that I often woke up in the night this past week to hear an owl hooting close by.  I did try to look carefully at things during the week and gain greater discernment about things on my mind...

This week the card I picked is the Wren.

WREN
INSPIRATION: Success
HEALING COLORS: Brown, white
MESSAGE: Success is believing that you make a difference in the world

The owl's colors last week were brown, white and yellow....Maybe I need to get over my dislike of brown??

The wren is a tiny little backyard bird with an upturned tail. I love their little tails - such a distinctive sign of a wren. The house wren has 130 different songs in its repertoire and the Carolina wren sings all year long.  Guess I should do lots of singing this week :=D

Wrens are busy, energetic birds who build their nests in just about anything - a hat, mailbox, tin can. The male will build up to 5 nests to see if the female likes his work.  Hmm... don't think I'm looking for a new house right now...but I am just moving into my studio.  Guess it's time to make sure it's all just as I want it.

Wrens are persistent, especially when building nests and are often seen trying to fit long twigs through the nest hole until they give us.  This suggests "don't give up".  If something doesn't fit, find another way to make it work.  Maybe this relates to fitting everything into my new studio?  By trying a different approach, success will come?

I love the message of the wren : Success is believing that you make a difference in the world. That will be my focus for the week...along with singing lots, and not giving up.

Bird Signs - The Owl

For my birthday, I got a book entitled "Bird Signs - guidance and wisdom from our feathered friends" by G.G. Carbone.  The book comes with a set of 52 cards too. The idea is that you can chose a card a day for quick inspiration, one a week for more in depth consideration, or use the cards to resolve a problem in your life. Also, if a particular bird appears in your life, the book will tell you its meaning.

So I thought I'd choose a card this Friday and see what comes up for this next week.  I've spread the cards out and the idea is that I slowly pass my hand over the cards - without touching them and see if I feel heat from any of them.  Hmmm - seems a little odd to me - but I did it - and sure enough - one area did seem much warmer - so I investigated and the card I chose (or the card that chose me?) was the Owl.

Hmmm. Interestingly enough, the day I got these cards - the only other day I have tried this - I also got the owl!

OWL
Inspiration: Wisdom
Healing colors: Brown, white, yellow
Message: Wisdom provides the knowledge to discern the truth

Key characteristics of the owl are that they have excellent hearing and eyesight, and fly silently through the air.

The book suggests the following as an interpretation for the choosing the owl card:
Owls large eyes are on the front of their head - not on the sides like most birds - so they have binocular vision. And also night vision.  This suggests that maybe the owl wants me to see something that I'm not seeing clearly and discern the truth.

Owls also fly silently so this suggests that I listen carefully for a sign that will guide me further in my path for wisdom.

I'll keep my owl card on my table for the week and see what I discern.  The "brown" as a healing color doesn't appeal to me...I hate brown...

Here are a couple of owls I've made in the past....maybe I need to find one to wear this week...

Any wisdom from you?
