32/52 Bird a week - Happiness

For this week's bird, I made two bluebirds of happiness.

They are made from color anodized aluminum.

They are very friendly and when they get together, they tend to chat quite a lot.  Luckily when you wear them as earrings, there is a little separation so they are quieter!

We've had two batches of bluebirds nesting in our boxes this summer and both have yielded a few babies.

They don't look very blue yet, but then, I guess they need feathers to look blue!

They are useful birds to have in the vineyard - not just because they bring happiness (!), but also because they eat insects and thus keep the insect population down on the vines.

Take a look at the other birds that people have created as part of the bird a week challenge. The links are below:

Thank you notes from customers

It's always lovely when a customer takes the time to drop you an email to thank you for the item they have purchased and tell you how much they enjoy it.

Occasionally customers even put a thank you card in the mail. Nowadays it seems even more special to get a card in the mail.  And that was how it felt when I got a lovely card from Jennifer who bought my "bluebird of happiness" bangle last week.  But it was the front of the envelope that made it extra special as she had the following name sticker (I've cut out her name) on her envelope, which just shows how appropriate the bangle was for her:

Looks like those bluebirds are spreading happiness wherever they go!

Bluebird of happiness

The bluebirds are back in the vineyard, flashing their wonderful color and eating lots of bugs.  It seems early this year...and in no time, they'll start building their nests - hopefully in our birdhouse with a camera inside, so that we can watch them again this year.

It was timely then that a new customer asked me to make another of my "bluebird of happiness" bangles. At the end of 2009 I did a series of "birds with words" but I haven't made them in a while.  So for Jennifer - I hope this little bangle brings you happiness.

Bluebird of happiness

Here's another piece from my "birds with words" series...... Bluebird of Happiness.

The mythology of the bluebird of happiness has deep roots that go back thousands of years. Indigenous cultures across the globe hold similar myths and beliefs about the bluebird. It is a widely accepted symbol of cheerfulness, happiness, prosperity, hearth and home, good health, new births, the renewal of springtime, etc. Virtually any positive sentiments may be attached to the bluebird.

I hadn't heard of the expression a "bluebird of happiness" until we moved here and I saw my first bluebird. It's always a joy to see a bluebird and that wonderful flash of color...and they eat insects too, so are particularly useful around the vineyard. Now we watch them nest every year in one of our birdhouses in the vineyard - which even includes a camera inside so we can see every step from nest building to hatching to feeding to first flight.....and snoozing too:

Ahhh..... They do evoke happiness :=D
