Animal Tracks bracelet and Findlay the Frog get out there!

I just received the latest Fire Mountain Gems catalog for 2010-2011 and saw two of my older pieces in it!

The first was my "animal tracks" bracelet

And then also Findlay the Frog as "Stuck on You"!

It seems so long ago since I created them, but how nice to flick through a catalog and unexpectedly see your own work.

We are off to Lake Huron today, taking in a matinee play along the way.  Sounds like a perfect day....

Quentin's a Charmer!

Anyone who knows Quentin, knows that he is quite the charmer!  He's just a lovely sweet character so I thought he should have his very own charm bracelet to show off his charm!

You can add other charms alongside him as he's quite friendly, or else you can keep it just to Q.

I think I like him on his own actually....but maybe we could add some family members as you know quails have lots of babies... We could have our own covey of quails all on one bracelet!

Keep on charming, Quentin!

Etsy Metal Clay Team donates to Haiti

The Etsy Metal Clay team made a charm bracelet after doing charm swap, and I listed it this week on the Hearts for Haiti Etsy store. The bracelet is a hand made silver bracelet with 25 silver, copper and bronze charms, each made by a different member of the team (if you look carefully, you'll see Quentin there!).

All the money from sales goes to Doctorswithoutborders.org, to help those in Haiti.

The bracelet sold within a day! We raised $350 for Doctors without borders!

It was a great team effort and I'm sure the owner will enjoy having the work of 25 different artists around her wrist!

Great work also by those who are running the Hearts for Haiti store. They are giving so much time to list donated art and craft to raise money. Well done Victoria, Nora and others.

Dandy, Quentin Crisp

I just finished making some charms for a commission that will all hang together on a bangle.....one charm was Dandy Lion, another was Quentin Quail and the third was a warbler bird.... Hmm. Somehow "warbler" didn't seem like an adequate name compared to Quentin and Dandy. What name could match up to Quentin and Dandy I wondered?.... I was stuck.....

So I decided to get the help of Google and put in "Quentin, Dandy" in the search box...and it came back with this article all about how Quentin Crisp was a Dandy style icon. So voila! My warbler charm is now called Crisp. Crisp the Warbler - what a clear voice he has! And now the bracelet is Dandy, Quentin & Crisp!

If you haven't heard of the original dandy, Quentin Crisp - he was British and here's his photo - looking very dandy and here's the link to an article about him.

He was celebrated in a film "An Englishman in New York" and Sting also wrote a song about him with the same title! Check out the youtube and you'll see Quentin!

Dandy is definitely a good word for him!

See what you learn when you try to find names for your creations?

Paw prints bracelet......

or animals tracks bracelet? My husband always calls it paw prints!

Anyhow - just made another paw prints bracelet for my neighbour. It's very different making something for someone you know. I like the way that the person is always in my mind as I am creating it. It is like a special time to think of that person.....

No animals were hurt in this production - all very compliant!. On the back of each track is the name of the animal that made it (- no, not personal name like Tommy and Spike, but opossum, porcupine etc etc!!! ).

She seemed pleased and now can go down to the creek and see if those tracks are Mr Raccoon or Mr Mountain Lion!!!

Enjoy your wearable field guide Rony!

Hummingbirds etc

For the last couple of weeks or so I've been busy with my mum and dad's visit and the film festival so haven't had time to blog as often or create as often.

But today I've just finished a charm bracelet for my mum. Hopefully it's something she can add to over time.....

She wanted a watch, so a charm bracelet with one charm as the watch face was my interpretation. As for the other charms - one is to remind her of her dog Lucy who died a while ago and whom she still misses alot....another is a hummingbird which is one of her favourite birds that she always looks out for when she visits...and the last is a birdhouse to remind her of Birdland - our home.
