Showertime! - Master Muse Project

My last master muse project is up on Tonya Davidson's blog today, for Whole Lotta Whimsy. It's entitled "Showertime".  The full step by step process of how to make this necklace will be available at WLW in the near future.

Our challenge was to make a piece of jewelry that resembled pierced work from sheet metal  - but without all the sawing!

As I began thinking about what I could put behind a pierced design, I wanted to try something different and so began looking around the house.  And thus I came up with the idea of "showertime" and using a colored towel behind the cut out!  Using an object associated with the illustration adds more "punch" to the illustration, I think!

I made the piece reversible with a person in a shower on one side and an umbrella on the other!

Come rain or shine...

Come rain or shine....I'm gonna love you like nobody's loved you.....


It's taken me a little while to come up with a title for this latest necklace. It shows a little birdie with a flower as her umbrella or parasol - providing shelter from rain or the sun. It's not exactly a wintery piece but I started making an umbrella and then got the idea that a flower would be much nicer for a little bird.....


Anyhow - hope you like my latest bird.....and as I checked on my title I found it was in the lyrics to a song. Here's Bette Midler singing it in "For the boys":




Other titles that had come to mind were:
"singing in the rain"....but then the flower could provide shade on a sunny day too.....
"tiptoe through the tulips"....but it wasn't a tulip!
"raindrops on roses".....but it wasn't a rose!


"If love is shelter, I'm going to walk in the rain"....a quotation, but I didn't quite understand it..

"Petal drops".....a bit too cutesy.

Then driving home today, "Come rain or shine" just popped into my head!

Do you have any better ideas for the name?

YOU are my sunshine

Every morning around breakfast time, I sing the first verse of "you are my sunshine". I sing it to (actually WITH) Harold, my pet parrot. It's his favorite song and he loves to join in. And he is my sunshine. Whatever day it is, whatever has happened, he is always my sunshine and can brighten my day.


A few years ago I made a brooch of the song for myself. It's a similar design to this new necklace but not sculpted. Then the other day I thought that my little "anyone" figures would incorporate nicely into the design and voila! A necklace to warm your heart!


Two little figures are huddling together under an umbrella....rain is pouring down, but they have all the sunshine they need in each other! YOU are my sunshine. I made a tag of the title that hangs down at the clasp.
