Doug the dog meets a Sloughi

I recently had a commission to make a charm like Doug the dog, but to make a few changes like:
  • add longer legs,
  • add a longer tail,
  • keep the same cute smile,
  • add a collar and chain,
  • add foldy over ears
The lady has a Sloughi dog and while she said it didn't have to look just like that - she wanted these little changes yet still maintaining the humor/whimsy that Doug has.

I just finished her doggie today. His name is Johann after Johann Sebastian Bach (as in bark!!!..... thanks Caulie!)  and that'll work out fine as he's going to live in Germany!  He's not as sleek and slim as a Sloughi but I think she'll like him.

Here's his smiling face

The essence of Sloughi in Doug!   He is to go on a leather and silver bracelet that she has which is why she wants it on a chain rather than just a jump ring.

I think he looks cute!  I'd never heard of a Sloughi dog before and not sure how you pronounce it - but they look pretty handsome!

Anyone got a Sloughi?

Hummingbirds etc

For the last couple of weeks or so I've been busy with my mum and dad's visit and the film festival so haven't had time to blog as often or create as often.

But today I've just finished a charm bracelet for my mum. Hopefully it's something she can add to over time.....

She wanted a watch, so a charm bracelet with one charm as the watch face was my interpretation. As for the other charms - one is to remind her of her dog Lucy who died a while ago and whom she still misses alot....another is a hummingbird which is one of her favourite birds that she always looks out for when she visits...and the last is a birdhouse to remind her of Birdland - our home.

Desk buddy

Hope you had a good Christmas. We did!

Now that everyone has opened their pressies, thought I'd show you another one that I made. I have a wonderful friend, Fabienne, who lives in Turkey. She is French and translates all my listings for me for my Dawanda website and is also part of our merry-go-round.

We met through Dawanda and have such a fun time corresponding with each other and learning more and more about each other. It is people like Fabs who make selling online so much fun. Both her and my friend Marion, who translates my listings into German, have become such great friends and they enrich my life in so many different ways.

Anyhow, she makes jewelry too - absolutely gorgeous stuff. She does the most incredibly fine and detailed wire wrapping - so take a look at her Dawanda store - Easterya.

But as she makes her own jewelry, I decided to make her something that wasn't jewelry but that could sit near her computer or at her work bench and keep her company. So she got a desk buddy - who also happens to double as a friend for her intrepid explorer dog, Jack. Here's her new desk buddy.
I like the idea of desk buddies. I have a few myself......and maybe I'll do a few more of these......It's like a miniature sculpture - adorning your computer or desk instead of you! Hope you like Jack's new friend.

Do you have any desk buddies? Friends who sit with you as you work????? Do tell us about them..
