I spent my studio time today making some photopolymer plates for a commission. Photopolymer plates are used to create the impression/texture/pattern in silver clay, a bit like a rubber stamp.
The commission is to make another animal tracks bracelet, but the customer wanted specific animal tracks included, not the ones that I used before. Her choice includes elephant, rhino, buffalo, owl, etc.... Here's my original animal tracks bracelet:
I write on the reverse of each square, which animal made the foot print - so it's a learning tool too!!
The bracelet is a gift for the customer's daughter who is graduating with a master's degree in animal science. She gave me the list of animal tracks she wanted, but helped out finding one of them. Here is the track that she supplied:
Any idea what animal made it?
I'll be working on the bracelet this week, so I'll post photos of the finished product when it's done. Go on - have a guess at the mystery print .......

New story bracelet
I've been making some photo polymer plates for a new "story" type bracelet. It'll be in the design of the "remember the little things" bracelet but the story is based on the following quotation by Victor Hugo:
Be as a bird that, pausing on her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing that she hath wings.
So it'll be like a 'do not worry' bracelet.... A reminder that we all have strength within us, even when things seem to be tricky.......
I share four of my initial sketches - which is very brave of me, as I can't draw - but it will give you an idea of the process and how I start. Hopefully you can match the sketches to the quotation......

Then hopefully next week, I'll finish the bracelet and you can see the end result.
If you have a story or quotation that you think would translate well into a bracelet - do let me know!

Background stuff
Well, it seems like I haven't made many new things lately. Just the hands last week.... Nothing to show and tell! :-(
So I thought I better explain that I haven't been sat around doing nothing. I've actually been doing lots of background stuff - such as:
As I was feeling like I'd done nothing, this afternoon I put all that to one side and just made a couple of things - nothing earth shattering but ........They are drying now and I may finish them tomorrow...so hopefully I will be able to show and tell later in the week.
Friday it is time for our merry go round post and we are all writing a little about the process of our art - so I need to take some photos of the different stages involved in making a piece of jewelry so you can see the "transformation" from clay to silver. I guess I'll have to make something new for that tomorrow - and even worse - tidy my studio if I'm taking photos up there!!!
So I thought I better explain that I haven't been sat around doing nothing. I've actually been doing lots of background stuff - such as:
- some research at the library on a few ideas for bracelets
- ditto the above but searching online
- spending lots of time on photopolymer plates and thermal negative films - I'm trying to work up some plates with really fine lines and details but haven't quite got there yet. Keep testing and not finding success.....yet......
- tried a new bracelet design on photopolymer plates, but it ended up looking too indistinct so scraped it
- trying copper clay again but not feeling inspired by it
