A day with resists

I had a day in my studio today. It is far too rare an occasion unfortunately - but nice when it comes. I didn't make anything new, but instead was experimenting with some new dyes and resists for aluminum. 

As you can see here with the bird cage, the resist was used to draw the cage the birds and then the aluminum was dyed and sealed.

In these two pieces, the dye seemed to not take evenly and showed water-type marks.  Here's the trees in resist:

And in this piece, I was going for a Baroque look:

This water-mark dyeing occasionally happens and I'm not sure why.  Guess I'll have to keep experimenting.....

Spring Flowers or Ice cream flavors?

Spring in San Miguel begins next week - on February 2nd - my birthday! So today I finished a couple of "spring flower" aluminum bangles ready for spring.

Happy cheerful colors.  I also did a bird bracelet - ready for my "bird a week" challenge so I'll show that tomorrow.

Are you ready to think of spring yet?  It's lovely and sunny here - cool mornings and evenings but the afternoons are delightful - sunny, ice cream sort of weather.  It seems that San Miguel has become an ice cream place for me. I normally don't eat ice cream - only occasionally when I make it myself - but in the square there is this one ice cream maker whose ice cream is just divine.  Hmmm, maybe these are ice cream bangles, not spring flower bangles....tutti frutti and blueberry freeze!!!    What do you think? Spring flowers or ice cream?

The joys of dyeing

I bought some new aluminum dyes recently so was making a couple up this morning.  The turquoise was different from the others as you had to combine a couple of chemicals with it...so I started making it up, but then had trouble opening the little sachet.  As there was liquid in it - that made it stick closed so I was fiddling and .....

Yes, unlike the other dyes, I have now found out that the turquoise is actually excellent at dyeing skin!!!  None of the other dyes have ever stained my skin but this one is an expert at it! These photos are taken after I've been washing, scrubbing, trying acetone etc etc!! 

I guess I'll just have to wear turquoise today if I go out so that at least I match my fingers!! Who needs rings when you can just dye your fingers - much more eye catching, don't you think???

Hmmm.... Maybe gloves next time :=D
